Sergio Mendes and the New Brasil ’77 is a self-titled studio album released in 1977 under Elektra Records. It represents a major turning point in the career of the legendary Brazilian pianist and composer. After achieving worldwide success with his iconic Brasil ’66 group, Mendes rebranded and updated his band’s lineup and musical direction to embrace the high-energy funk, soul, disco, and R&B sounds of the late 1970s.
