1999 Samuel Purdey – Musically Adrift
Musically Adrift is the only album by the British duo Samuel Purdey, originally released in 1999 exclusively in Japan by Sony Music before becoming a cult classic in the Yacht Rock, AOR, and Acid Jazz scenes. The band was formed by Gavin Dodds and Barney Hurley, two musicians who previously served as touring members for Jamiroquai during their early years. Recorded in the mid-1990s, the album went completely against the grain of the Britpop wave dominating the UK at the time, which inspired its prophetic title. Deemed out of step with Western trends by their record label, it was shelved in Europe but found an exclusive release in Japan, where audiences instantly embraced it.
